Interior painting is a smart and economical way to renew your home or office and your mood, but it is also necessary for proper maintenance of each space.

If you are planning to paint interiors, either on your own or with the help of a professional, it is useful to know some basics about the available paint categories and materials that will help you get the best result.

Painting interior walls

Take the roll and the extension handle and throw the acrylic paint on the paintbrush or use a bucket with a grill. Decide which wall to make first and paint it with smooth, even lines. While waiting for the first coat of paint to dry, wrap the roller or brush in plastic wrap.

Then apply the secondlayer. Put some acrylic paint in small containers and paint the corners and edges of the room using a small brush. When finished, clean the brush, cans, bucket and roller. If you used masking tape, remove it as soon as the paint dries.

Spreading the paint with the brush

When using a brush it is best to apply the paint first left and right or up and down as you prefer. Make long strokes starting from the dry area and complete the line to the wet area. When the paint is dry, apply the second layer.

This creates a better and more uniform result. If you use dark paint, you may need three coats! Allow the first layer to dry completely before applying the second layer. See the drying time on the paint label.

Cleaning the brushes and the roller

If paint has spilled and is still wet, clean it immediately with a damp cloth. If it has already dried, it will be difficult to clean. While waiting, keep the brush or roller moist: you can place it in a plastic bag or carefully cover it with plastic wrap.

After wrapping it, place the brush or roller in the refrigerator. This may sound a bit strange, but it’s really helpful. The cold delays the drying of the paint. Remove the brush and roller from the refrigerator 30 minutes before you need them so they will still be flexible and ready to use.

If using acrylic paint, clean the brush with water and a small amount of detergent. Rinse until the water is clear. Lay the bristles of the brush in their original shape and let the brush dry.

Removal of excess paint

If you are painting large surfaces, you can use a special grille to remove excess paint from the brush. Alternatively, if you use smaller containers, put their contents in a 5 liter bucket.

The paint grate is a rectangular metal or plastic grid that is attached to the end of the bucket. Fill the bucket halfway with paint and hang the grill inside. Dip the roller in the paint and pass it through the grill to remove the excess paint. When finished, leave the grill in the pan and place the lid on top.
